Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to show how to extract the drainage network from the SAREX project RADAR image using Mathematical Morphology tools. The problem is to find a mapping from a grey level image into a binary image that exhibits the drainage. The selected region is from a test site in Acre, SW Amazonia, Brazil. In RADAR images, the drainage network appears with high contrast and well defined shape. Mathematical Morphology is a theory for spatial structure analysis and aims here at analyzing the shape and the forms of the drainage network. This analysis is based on the set and lattice theories. This paper uses the MMach, a Mathematical Morphology Toolbox for the KHOROS system.
